Is a flight companion a nurse?
Not by default. This category is explicitly non-medical. Request a qualified medical escort if clinical support may be needed.
Planned patient travel · independent provider options
A non-medical flight companion can help with agreed travel navigation and personal assistance. This is not nursing care, clinical monitoring or medical treatment. Describe the journey and support you are seeking so independent providers can explain their scope.
Free request. No account or card. Provider review, operating permissions and availability must be confirmed. For emergencies, contact local emergency services.
Travel can involve check-in, navigation, connections, communication and finding the receiving person. A companion proposal should specify which of these tasks are included and where the companion’s responsibility begins and ends.
Do not assume that personal assistance includes lifting, intimate care, medication administration or medical equipment management. Ask each provider what it can lawfully and safely offer, and what arrangements are outside its scope.
If the traveler may need clinical observation, nursing tasks or management of medical equipment, request professional medical support rather than assuming a companion can provide it. The intake lets you explore clinical categories separately.
Airline accessibility assistance is also distinct from a privately arranged companion. Confirm what the operating airline supplies and what the independent companion agrees to do. Neither service automatically covers the entire journey.
A useful offer identifies the person or service providing assistance, travel assumptions, total price and exclusions. Check whether the passenger’s ticket is included and how the companion’s own travel and return costs are handled.
Agree the contact plan if travel is delayed and who is expected to meet the traveler. MedicalRide does not guarantee a companion’s availability or imply clinical credentials for non-medical providers.
| Option | What it describes | What needs confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial flight with medical escort | A qualified medical professional accompanies the patient on a scheduled airline. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
| Commercial airline stretcher | An airline-approved stretcher arrangement with appropriately qualified medical support—not an ordinary lie-flat seat. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
| Private jet with medical escort | Private charter with accompanying medical staff; not necessarily a medically configured air ambulance. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
| Dedicated air ambulance — jet or turboprop | A medically configured aircraft and clinical crew, subject to operator review and availability. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
| Non-medical flight companion | Travel navigation and personal assistance without clinical care or medical supervision. | Non-clinical scope, assistance limits and handoff plan |
| Planned helicopter medical transfer | A planned, coordinated medical transfer requiring individual review. Not emergency dispatch or rescue. | Non-emergency case review, suitable landing arrangements and authorized operator |
| Ground travel with a medical escort | A qualified medical professional accompanies the patient by road. For a vehicle ride with mobility assistance only, use the separate ground transport intake. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
