Can I request an air ambulance for an emergency?
No. This enquiry is for planned transport, not emergency rescue or dispatch. Contact local emergency services or the treating medical team for an emergency.
Planned patient travel · independent provider options
A dedicated air ambulance is a medically configured aircraft with a clinical team for the agreed journey. Request options from independent providers and compare what each proposal actually includes—not just the aircraft or headline price.
Free request. No account or card. Provider review, operating permissions and availability must be confirmed. For emergencies, contact local emergency services.
A commercial escort accompanies a patient on a scheduled flight. An air ambulance instead uses a dedicated aircraft configured for the agreed medical transport. A private charter with a clinician on board is not automatically an air ambulance: the cabin configuration, equipment, crew and operating arrangements matter.
The treating team and prospective provider must assess the support needed during loading, flight and handoff. MedicalRide collects the request and helps seek relevant proposals; it does not assess fitness to fly, provide clinical care or operate the aircraft.
Ask for the legal operating carrier as well as the company arranging the journey. A broker may coordinate qualified partners rather than own an aircraft. Neither business model, on its own, proves suitability or availability for this patient.
An airport-to-airport quote may leave substantial parts of the journey unarranged. Confirm who collects the patient, coordinates discharge readiness, supplies each ground vehicle and accepts the receiving handoff. Ask what happens if the hospital release or receiving arrangements change.
For a planned international transfer, the provider also needs to assess travel permissions, airport handling and entry requirements. A request or price indication is not an aircraft reservation or a clinical acceptance.
| Option | What it describes | What needs confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial flight with medical escort | A qualified medical professional accompanies the patient on a scheduled airline. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
| Commercial airline stretcher | An airline-approved stretcher arrangement with appropriately qualified medical support—not an ordinary lie-flat seat. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
| Private jet with medical escort | Private charter with accompanying medical staff; not necessarily a medically configured air ambulance. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
| Dedicated air ambulance — jet or turboprop | A medically configured aircraft and clinical crew, subject to operator review and availability. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |
| Non-medical flight companion | Travel navigation and personal assistance without clinical care or medical supervision. | Non-clinical scope, assistance limits and handoff plan |
| Planned helicopter medical transfer | A planned, coordinated medical transfer requiring individual review. Not emergency dispatch or rescue. | Non-emergency case review, suitable landing arrangements and authorized operator |
| Ground travel with a medical escort | A qualified medical professional accompanies the patient by road. For a vehicle ride with mobility assistance only, use the separate ground transport intake. | Clinical scope, equipment, operator or airline acceptance and actual availability |

No. Independent operators or arranging providers deliver the proposed transport. Ask each company to identify the actual operating carrier and clinical provider.
Yes. Select both when requesting options, but the treating team, provider and any airline must assess which arrangements are appropriate. A lower price is not evidence of medical suitability.
