Describe the complete journey
Enter the pickup and destination, preferred date, passenger transportation needs and assistance at both addresses. Add a return trip, companion or access issue when relevant.
Private-pay long-distance medical transportation
One request. A clearer plan for a longer journey.
Planning a medical ride to another city or state? Tell MedicalRide where the trip starts and ends, when you need to travel, and what assistance is required. We help you request quotes from independent providers for long-distance seated, wheelchair and stretcher transportation.
Review the available options, ask questions about what is included, and confirm the final arrangements with the provider you choose. A longer journey deserves more than a price without the details.
Private-pay transportation. Provider acceptance and availability are required. MedicalRide does not operate the vehicle or provide medical care.

One clear request
Route, timing, ride type and assistance—together.
Start the request
Use the form to share the route, timing and assistance needs. You can review provider responses before deciding how to proceed.

A clear path from request to confirmation
Enter the pickup and destination, preferred date, passenger transportation needs and assistance at both addresses. Add a return trip, companion or access issue when relevant.
Independent companies review whether the route, timing, vehicle and assistance fit their services. A request does not guarantee a response or reserve a vehicle.
Review price together with pickup arrangements, vehicle, assistance, payment terms and cancellation conditions—not simply the smallest number.
Confirm provider acceptance, final trip details, pickup contact, payment requirements and what happens if the schedule changes.
Common longer journeys
Include the anticipated release date, the pickup location within the facility, and who will receive the passenger. Tell the provider when approval or timing is pending. Transportation confirmation and discharge approval are separate matters.
Relocation may involve luggage, mobility equipment, companions and a handoff at a new residence. Describe those requirements and ask how stops, arrival timing and assistance into the destination will be handled.
Confirm who is coordinating pickup and who expects the passenger. Explain access restrictions and receiving hours. MedicalRide does not arrange admission or replace decisions by facilities and the passenger's care team.
State the appointment time and whether the provider should wait, return later or provide one-way transport. When the finish time is uncertain, ask how a delayed return will be handled and charged.
Choose the actual passenger setup

Describe whether the passenger can travel in a vehicle seat and what help is needed getting to and from it. A person who can walk may still need doorway assistance, boarding time or space for a walker.
Tell the provider whether the passenger remains in the chair or can transfer, plus the chair type, dimensions and access needs. Review the wheelchair transportation guide.
Make the requirements at both ends clear. Stretcher accommodation during the ride is not automatically bed-to-bed service. Read about stretcher and gurney transportation.
The passenger's care team and transportation provider should address travel suitability and clinical requirements. Selecting a ride type is not a medical assessment.
Route first, label second
State-to-state medical transport begins and ends in different states; cross-country requests cover longer geographic journeys. For quotes, the actual road route and required assistance matter more than the label.
You can also request a long-distance ride inside one state. Give providers both addresses and the full timing requirements. For a multi-hour trip, ask how travel breaks, companion seating, belongings, pickup timing and arrival coordination will work.
Where additional personnel, overnight arrangements or specialized support are necessary, have the provider confirm them in writing. They are not automatically included merely because a request is marked long-distance.
For additional planning detail, use the established long-distance medical transportation guide.
Compare like with like
| Compare | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Complete route | Both addresses, one-way or return, and any planned stops |
| Passenger setup | Seated, remaining in a wheelchair, or stretcher accommodation |
| Assistance | Help at the curb, through the doorway, or between beds, as agreed |
| Access | Stairs, elevators, narrow entrances and equipment limitations |
| Timing | Pickup window, waiting arrangements and destination receiving hours |
| Other travelers | Companion seating, luggage and equipment space |
| Full price | Which charges are included and which could be added |
| Booking terms | Deposit or payment timing, cancellation and rescheduling conditions |
Ask for missing details before comparing totals. If a provider proposes a different vehicle or support arrangement, confirm that the change meets the passenger's needs before proceeding.
Budget before you submit
The long-distance medical transport cost calculator provides a planning estimate for supported U.S. routes and transportation requirements. It is a starting point for budgeting, not a provider quote or reservation.
The final price depends on the offer for your journey. Review what the estimate assumes and tell providers about requirements that may not be included. Some trips need a provider-specific quote rather than an automated number.

Request long-distance transport quotesPrepare one useful request
Start with the pickup and destination, preferred date, approximate pickup timing, and whether the request is one-way or includes a return. Add the passenger's ride type and the assistance needed at each address.
For wheelchair or stretcher requests, include relevant equipment and access information. Tell the provider about a companion, stairs, an elevator, restricted entrance or scheduled handoff. Use secure form fields for contact and passenger details rather than public messages.
When something is not confirmed, say so. A pending discharge time, uncertain return or unresolved access question should be visible before a provider agrees to the trip.
Know who confirms what
Helps organize the request and available provider responses. MedicalRide does not operate the transportation vehicle.
Accepts the service, confirms capability and availability, operates the vehicle, and completes the ride.
Choose which offer to pursue, confirm price and booking terms, and keep pickup and receiving contacts informed.
MedicalRide is for private-pay requests and does not bill insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. Direct reimbursement questions to the relevant plan or payer.
